Pastel Drawing: Dock at the Lake

So Shim just drew this amazing waterscape with pastels! It’s her first one! Let me tell you, pastels are HARD to… control. So give a round of applause to shim for being a great artist! Shim, can I use this as a background? Or something…

Through the Pencil Tip

IMG_0372-2 Yes, that’s kind of a dock-like thing, not a bridge that fell into the lake.

This is my first ever drawing done with oil pastels.  I’ve used chalk pastels before, but not oil ones, so to be completely honest, I have no clue what I was doing.  I kind of like the result, though.

I’m really, really happy with the colors on this one.  The water, and even some of that color on the mountains, and the sky… I loved it.  So, while this drawing isn’t perfect, I am fairly happy with it.

Time spent drawing: An hour or two?  I don’t really remember.
Medium: Oil pastels.
Reference images: I kind of typed into google, “Lake images” and another one with “Storm cloud images”, but I don’t think I used any one particular image.  I just kind of glanced through a bunch until I had an idea.

The Calm Wizard of the Sea

I always see sea-turtles in my head that way.

So, I got some new markers!? They’re not copic markers, but they’re still pretty good, except I have NO idea what I should be doing.

Markers make no sense.

Nor do turtles.

Have a happy Thursday and Friday!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

I have a few reviews on my other blog that were published, and there be more to come! Also, I’m planning on putting up a short story I’ve been working on??? That’s questionable, actually, I might be too shy. 😛

Nature’s great masterpiece…

Nature’s great masterpiece, an elephant, the only harmless great thing. -John Donne

Love will draw an elephant through a keyhole. -Samuel Richardson

Of all African animals, the elephant is the most difficult for man to live with, yet its passing – if this must come – seems the most tragic of all. I can watch elephants (and elephants alone) for hours at a time, for sooner or later the elephant will do something very strange such as mow grass with its toenails or draw the tusks from the rotted carcass of another elephant and carry them off into the bush. There is mystery behind that masked gray visage, and ancient life force, delicate and mighty, awesome and enchanted, commanding the silence ordinarily reserved for mountain peaks, great fires, and the sea.” ― Peter Matthiessen, The Tree Where Man Was Born

So, still going on with operation teach self to watercolor!

I seem to have difficulty controlling the thickness of the paint I use, also of the brush. I just need a bit of getting used to.

I hope everyone’s having a great new years so far! I plan on doing an award nomination thing soon, given by Evi!

Has anyone else noticed that everyone is going self hosted? Chloe brought it up, ans she says she’s going to go self hosted too!

Well, have a great week, happy Friday!

And a late merry Christmas! I hope your days were filled with love and joy and not too much stress and sadness that the year is over.

This is how I reflect on my mixed feelings. Oh gosh.

The thing is, I cannot freaking decide if I love the end of the year and the beginning of a new one or not. There’s nothing I can do to stop it from coming, and nothing to bring the old year back. It’s hard to know if I’m okay with that.

There were so many exciting things, so many devastating things, others just stressful. I’m glad that I’m safe, and happy, and I hope that many people feel good, even through all of the troubling things around the world. This planet has a lot of new years left.

Resolutions, let’s see.

I need to write more.

Read the Holy Bible more.

More tolerance with my family, my brother especially.

Reduce my stress, by finishing homework early, and efficiently.

Stop letting daily life annoyances get in the way of the things I enjoy.

I shall post more on both of my blogs.

Especially book/movie reviews.

Drop five seconds on each of my swim strokes.

And so much more….. I’ve got a lot of work to do.

HAPPY NEW YEARS! May your year be filled with new opportunities, and exciting things!

A very quick doodle of the amazing LUNA LOVEGOOD!

She’s such a precious character, and I’ve been seeing her all over Tumblr, so I was inspired. Stay tuned to Books and Stuff for a Luna post I look forward to sharing!

Gosh, IT’S BEEN SO LONG! I’ve had a very busy life. I’ve had… 3 orchestra concerts, a bunch of swimming, and choir, and homework… and finals which were soooooooooo stressful so my days were like:

Well, they were a bit better, but still. My science one was probably the hardest. I think I did very well on it though.

As for my concerts, i had an after school one were I got FOURTH CHAIR (out of 22)hows that. The front chair people were amazingly good, the violin one soloist though… was amazing! So I felt proud, I hope you guys get opportunities to really show your talents too, I bet just by blogging you guys already are!

Is anyone else just loving legend of Korra? Or, say that finale for ONCE UPON A TIME. I felt like crying where Belle did the unthinkable, just… *fangirls*

Anyways… thought I’d just catch you up. I have winter break coming, along with the anniversary of A Doodler’s Freedom! Yay!

Happy Holidays,

Sisterhood of the World Blogger award!

Thank you so much to the wonderful for giving me this award! I’m so honored! Go check out her blog!

Also, I even more recently got the same award from Evi! Thank you I’m so honored!

Here are the rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site.
  • Put the award logo on your blog.
  • Answer the ten questions they’ve set you.
  • Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer.
  • Nominate ten people.

Well, here are the questions! Gosh, I learn so much about even myself answering these!

  1. What’s your favorite quote?

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

    Apple Inc.

  2. One place you’ve always wanted to visit?
Maybe London, Brazil, or Japan. I’m so stereotypical, but I have my reasons.
  3. Do you have a favorite book you always re-read?
    It’s usually
  4. What’s your favorite film?
Ahhh… I like so many it would be hard to decide, but I like Mulan, since I was younger, always.
  5. Favorite Disney sidekick?
You can’t be serious, I HAVE TO CHOOSE? Probably… Maximus the deadly horse from Tangled.
  6. If you could only eat one kind of food for the rest of your life what would you eat?
Bread or bread-like food. I think it’s delicious, and it’s also life sustaining.
  7. If money wasn’t an option and you could do anything for 24 hours what would you do?
If money is not applied, probably shopping, at an amusement park, reading at a book store, and… bringing my friends along.
  8. Do you prefer peanut butter of Nutella?
    Haha, funny: I’m allergic.
  9. Favorite joke?
I find all of mine from Readers Digest, but I like this one from the Big Bang Theory show: A neutron walks into a bar and asks how much for a drink.
  10. Favorite kind of pizza topping?
Well, I honestly really like pepperoni, but I love putting basil on my pizza.

Evi’s questions…

1. What is the wackiest/coolest/everything-else-in-between fandom you’re obsessed with?

It has to be Avatar the Last Airbender, or Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson. GAH THEY’RE ALL GREAT!

2. What is your favorite song/album/artist?

I really like Pink, Fun, and Kelly Clarckson.

3. Weirdest search term for your blog? (Or comment.)

I don’t know what people look up and suddenly find my blog, so, I’ll go with comment: They are all so weird because I can’t believe people actually comment on my blog, I’m serious. Also, any comment saying they can’t draw. Anyone can draw, but not everybody is meant for drawing. You have your own kind of art!

4.What’s the funniest thing someone has said to you/that has happened to you recently?

My brother was talking about Cheerio’s, but he kept saying Oreo’s. That’s the funniest thing today, he was hilarious, I told him, each time he repeated ‘oreo’ that he wasn’t calling it by the right name. Little brothers. *shakes head*

5. How many bookshelves are in your house (I dunno. I’m curious)?

Three or Four? They’re kind of big. And growing.

6. Favorite TV show?

What kind of a question is this? *runs and hides* Well, top three have to be Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra, Once Upon a Time, and… Big Bang Theory? That or something like Cosmos or Nova.

7. Favorite animal?

8. One thing you would do if you were immortal?

Well, make lots of money, donate a lot of it to finding cures to things like cancer. and help others get education, also try a lot of jobs, travel the world.

9. Hogwarts house?

Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

10. Godly parent at Camp Half-Blood/Camp Jupiter?

Athena, Greek, please. I’m too hopeless to be Roman.

WELL! That’s over with. I’m kidding, I love answering questions, sometimes. 😛 I’m awfully sarcastic, I annoy even myself. Ten questions for nominees!

1. Favorite kind of candy?

2. Do you like public speaking?

3. If you had to be a famous landmark, which would you be?

4. Science Fiction or Historical Fiction?

5. What did you want to be when you were little?

6. Most stressful time assignment from school?

7. Christmas or Halloween?

8. Do you collect anything?

9. Tea or Coffee?

10. Funniest, or most ironic story you have ever been in or heard?

I nominate only 3 people! I’m sorry, I just don’t know many… But here you go!

Nirvana at Nirvana’s Pocketful

Evi (I know you nominated me, but I was planning to nominate you first so ha!) @ Where Books Never End

Ana @ Butterflies of the Imagination

Well, bye!

Blood of Olympus today

So, Blood of Olympus comes out today!

Oh gosh.

We will never see Percy again in a full novel. Or the rest.

The madness ends. Here. Today.

We will know soon.

*looks around to see if anyone is watching* Well, I’m off to get my copy.

My Hero Monday: Annabeth Chase

Annabeth is a character from the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. This is an excellent series, and you should totally check it out!
Annabeth is one of my fictional character inspirations because she is simply just awesome. Being the daughter of Athena, she is smart. She does not have any super powers like other demigods, but she doesn’t need them. She can speak for herself without a problem, and almost always without doubting herself. She thinks through things, and does it herself. Even though she does love her Seaweed Brain, she can survive (but not live) without him, which is a great thing to find in strong young women.
Annabeth strives to do her best, and she is one of my heroes for being that way.

(Art By Viria)

Thanks Chloe, this was tons of fun! I look forward to making more!
